Human Relations for Teachers
HURL 497/597 Human Relations for Teachers I meets the Minnesota Human Relations Requirement for teacher licensure. The State of Minnesota has reciprocity with Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio, and South Dakota. Please contact the Minnesota Department of Education if you believe you have met the Human Relations requirement in one of those states.
Undergraduate Education Majors
HURL 497, Human Relations for Teachers I is required for all Education programs at St. Cloud State University. Most majors also require HURL 498, Human Relations for Teachers II. See below for requirements for your major or contact us for additional information.
Early Childhood (CFS) Students: You only need to take HURL 497 Human Relations for Teachers I and do not need to take HURL 498 Human Relations for Teachers II. As of Spring 2006, all sections of HURL 497 are paired with HURL 498 but you are not required to take this co-requisite class – it is optional. See your advisor if you require additional information.
Counselor Education (CEEP) Students: If you did not take HURL 497/597 prior to Fall Semester 2006, you must register for HURL 497/597 and HURL 498/598 Human Relations for Teachers II. Please note that these two classes are co-requisites. In other words, certain sections are designated as ‘co-requisites’ and you must take HURL 497 and HURL 498 together by registering for the same section number of each during the same semester. Failing to do so may cause you to re-take the class.
Elementary Education Undergraduate Students: If you did not take HURL 497/597 prior to Fall Semester 2005, you must register for HURL 497 and HURL 498, Human Relations for Teachers II. Please note that these two classes are co-requisites. In other words, certain sections are designated as ‘co-requisites’ and you must take HURL 497 and HURL 498 together by registering for the same section number of each during the same semester. Failing to do so may cause you to re-take the class.
Secondary Education (5-12 & P-12) Undergraduate Students: If you did not take HURL 497/597 prior to Fall Semester 2001, you must register for HURL 497 and HURL 498, Human Relations for Teachers II. Please note that these two classes are co-requisites. In other words, certain sections are designated as ‘co-requisites’ and you must take HURL 497 and HURL 498 together by registering for the same section number of each during the same semester. Failing to do so may cause you to re-take the class.
Special Education Undergraduate Students: If you filled out your paperwork with your Special Education advisor prior to Fall Semester, 2003, you are required to take HURL 497, Human Relations for Teachers I. If you did not fill out your paperwork prior to Fall, 2003, you must take HURL 497 and HURL 498, Human Relations for Teachers II. Please note that these two classes are co-requisites. In other words, certain sections are designated as ‘co-requisites’ in the Schedule of Classes and you must take HURL 497 and HURL 498 together by registering for the same section number of each during the same semester. Failing to do so may cause you to re-take the class. Please contact the SCSU Department of Special Education if you do not know if you filled out your paperwork.
Licensure Only Students: If you already have an undergraduate degree and need to take classes to meet licensure requirements for Human Relations, you need to register for HURL 497/597, Human Relations for Teachers I, regardless of area. Please note that you do not have to register at the 597 level to meet the licensure requirement.
Students Enrolled in a Graduate Program in Education: Please check with your major advisor to see if you need to take only HURL 597 or if your program requires both HURL 597 and HURL 598.
