Office Coverage

In order to maintain service on our campus, it is important that all offices maintain a plan that responds to the needs of internal and external clientele. At a minimum, that plan will provide responsiveness to faculty, staff, students and the public during regular hours when the university is open. The office coverage includes summers, holidays, vacations and semester breaks. This plan is to be filed with the dean or vice president. There are a number of ways in which to achieve SCSU’s service oriented goal which includes but is not limited to:

  • Office is covered with an employee during office hours.
  • Office is covered with a student worker during office hours.
  • Telephones are transferred to another office with clear identification and answered by an employee and sign on door with clear instructions as to who can help the client.

When the Fourth of July, Christmas and New Years holidays land on Tuesdays or Thursdays, some employees like to take long weekends. It is not possible for the entire campus to close down on Mondays or Fridays. The university is open, and office coverage should be maintained.

Hours of Service

The university is open Monday through Friday except on legal holidays when classes are not in session. On a few occasions it is necessary to hold classes on legal holidays, and on those days most non-instructional offices and functions will not be open.

During the academic year, hours of service are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During the summer months the hours of service are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Flexible Scheduling

During the summer months it may be possible to approve flexible schedules for employees provided that office coverage is maintained. The schedules may include options recommended by a supervisor for possible approval by the appropriate vice president.
