Internship in Community Health
Objectives of the Community Health Internship
Gain first-hand knowledge and understanding of Community Health programs and the structures and forces which affect him/her.
Understand the individual and social problems for which these program services are designed and the impact they have upon individuals and groups.
Accept challenges and stimuli to learn and investigate.
Integrate and apply knowledge, theory, and understanding from classroom courses and other life experiences.
Experience contacts with professional workers on the job and tests him/her as a worker as well as a student.
Develop techniques and skills common to practice in Community Health programs, such as: data collection and organization; communication skills; motivation of others; disciplined use of self in interaction with individuals and groups.
Become aware of and analyzes his/her own values to determine if they are consistent with human services as a career.
Discover strengths, which may be developed, and weaknesses, which may be reduced through the educational program.
Test his/her interest and aptitude for a career in the human services.
Prepare for entry level employment in a professional role in a Community Health program, or for entry to a graduate school.
