Minutes

  • Minutes:  Chris will correct some name spellings, attendance, and name of a Career Services program on Dec. 2 and Dec. 7 minutes and then repost the corrected minutes on the NCA webpage.
  • Spring meeting time:  Based on the available schedules, we selected Fridays, 10:00 – 10:50 as our regularly scheduled meeting time.  We will continue to meet in Miller Center 114.  Chris will send a calendar request through Outlook so people can update their calendars.
  • ENGL 332 project on student organization and service:  Chris summarized the project the ENGL 332 (Business and Professional Writing) section completed toward gathering data about service provided by SCSU student organizations.  They used an emailed survey form and email contact addresses they got from CSOLD.  Because the survey did not go out until the 2nd week of December, they have not received an overwhelming number of responses.  We will need to figure out a way to get more information on these service activities.
  • Examples of timely response to service needs: We continued our discussion of specific examples of timely response on SCSU’s part to an expressed need. Other examples were the issue of alcohol use by students and Atwood’s After Dark weekend programming, which provided non-alcohol activity.  Another example is the Padilla-Spear-Beardsley alumni survey that resulted in the creation and implementation of the alumni mentoring program.  We plan to find one example like this from each college, center, and unit.
  • Matrix of inquiry questions:  We continued with the matrix of questions and COMPLETED our first attempt at answering the inquiry questions!  In January we will look at overlaps and begin more explicitly gathering the data to support our answers.  We will need feedback from others on campus to fill in gaps we might have left.
  • Next steps:  Chris will work on cleaning up the matrix.  We discussed how we might proceed with the drafting of the brief narratives.  Another committee is limiting the narrative to 2 paragraphs per inquiry question.  We looked at Eastern Illinois Universitiy as a sample of how the final electronic self study report and associated links might look.
