Health Promotions Programs
What is Health Promotion Programs?
The Health Promotions Program consists of two coordinators and
a number of certified peer educators who educate the student population
on a variety of health concerns and also increase the awareness
of particular health issues of interest to college age students.
Services
Services provided by Health Promotions Programs include prevention
and awareness activities. These programs consist of activities designed
for education and skill development. If you are interested in having
a Health Promotions Program for your class, dorm, fraternity/sorority
or other campus organization please call 308-4850 to schedule a program.
We also have a HUGE assortment of informational brochures available
for NO charge.
Certified Peer Educators (CPEs)
CPE's teach about:
- stress management
- alcohol
- reproductive health
- contraceptive choices

HIV and STD prevention
They also distribute health literature to the dorms, provide various
educational programs and are involved in planning for Main Street,
Sidestreet, World AIDS Day , Sexual Responsibility Week and
more. If you are interested in becoming a peer educator and
obtaining excellent skills in Public Speaking, Marketing, Program
Planning/Development and Health Promotion/Education please give

Peer Educators

Health Promotions Peer Educators
What are Peer Educators?
A dynamic group of SCSU
students who are involved in Health Education and Health Promotion
activities
around campus. They are responsible
for programming, planning events, marketing and education around
a variety of health issues concerning SCSU students. They are
involved in planning for Alcohol Awareness Week, Sexual Responsibility
Week, Great American Smokeout, World AIDS Day, etc.
Who is Eligible
to Apply?
Any SCSU students (graduate/undergraduate) are eligible to apply.
How do you apply to be a Peer Educator?
Complete an application form, which can be obtained in the SCSU
Student Health Services Health Promotions area.
Application materials should include:
- Completed Application
- Updated resume
Requirements:
- Peer educators must attend weekly
meetings (75% of the total)
- Peer educators must not be on academic
probation
- Peer educators must participate on one planning committee
per semester
- Peer educators must complete 3 hour of volunteer
work per week
- Peer educators must complete the Bacchus Gamma
Peer Education Program by the end of one school year
- Peer educators
must abide by the SCSU Student Code of Conduct and if violation
occurs they will be put on probation
for one
semester
Benefits:
There is no mandatory benefit of becoming a peer educator. Peer
educators will gain hands on experience in program planning, education,
marketing and many different aspects of health promotion. We are
a recognized Student Organization at SCSU and are also affiliated
with the National and Regional Bacchus Gamma Peer Educator Network.
Our Peer Educators will also have the opportunity to become Certified
Bacchus Gamma Peer Educators through a training, which is administrated
during spring semester each year.
