Qualifications for an Internship

In order to do an internship for credit through the COB, you must:

  • be admitted to a COB major; and,
  • be a senior by the time you intern.

We generally look at the completion of 90 credits as an artificial split between junior and senior year.  However, it’s important that interns have at least some of their upper-level major classes completed. You should be within one year of graduation when you do your internship.  If you are not certain about your eligibility, contact the Internship Director.

If you are a Bachelor of Elective Studies major, you must have an approved COB minor in order to do an internship through the College of Business.

Two other considerations need to be kept in mind. During the internship, no other classes are to be taken.  Our hope is that you can simply focus on the internship and give it 100% of your time and effort.  For many of our students, an internship is the first “professional” work experience.  This is an employment experience that future employers will look at closely and every effort needs to be made to make it as positive as possible. Limited exceptions have been made in past. If you need to, see the Internship Director.

Also, you must return to campus for at least one semester after the internship and be registered for (and taking) at least one on-campus class. During this time, you will be completing the post-internship requirements of a paper and class presentation.
