Congratulations, APICS!

SCSU's APICS chapter has been awarded Gold status for the third consecutive year. Student chapters are evaluated in five areas, including administration, education, programs, membership, and public relations. Less than 5% of the 200 student chapters throughout the nation win this award. If the chapter wins gold again for the next two years, it will be awarded Platinum status.

Congratulations, Laura Engelman!

Current University Program Board President, Laura Engelman, received the Outstanding Student Leader Award given at the National Association for Campus Activities Northern Plains Regional Conference this past weekend in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Northern Plains Region consists of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and a number of Canadian Provinces. There were over 100 colleges and universities represented at the conference and over 900 delegates in attendance.

Laura is a senior at St. Cloud State University and will graduate this spring with a Marketing Major and Mass Communications minor. She has served in numerous positions on the University Program Board over the past four years. Throughout her time on campus, Laura has made a positive impact on the campus community through her service and leadership and has truly developed into an outstanding student leader.

Congratulations, Anita Phillips (HCoB Alumna '79)!

HCoB accounting alumna, Anita Phillips, was recently named president and chief operating officer of T.G.I. Friday's USA company-owned restaurants. She is responsible for leading and executing strategy across 300 restaurants. Anita has worked for Carlson, the Minneapolis-based parent company of T.G.I. Friday's, for more than 20 years. The Excellence in Leadership Committee announced that twenty four students have been selected to receive the award this year. Six of the recipients are students in the Herberger Business School. The recipients will be honored at the Excellence in Leadership Banquet on Sunday, April 17, in the Atwood Memorial Center Ballroom. Congratulations!

Congratulations, SCSU APICS Student Chapter Team!

Congratulations to the SCSU APICS student chapter team! They won 3rd prize in the APICS 16th Annual Great Lake District Case Competition this past weekend. Twenty-five teams of students from universities in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, and other states participated in the competition. The case involved issues in operations and supply chain management and sustainability. Teams were given the case late in the evening and had to work through the night to develop a presentation and a paper. Teams presented their recommendations to the audience of 225 educators and professionals the next morning.

Team members from SCSU were: Christina Vetruba, Christine Golliet, RaeAnn Jones, Jeremy Apikelis, and David Johnson.

Congratulations, Kent Koch!

Kent KochHCoB finance major, Kent Koch, was recently sworn in as mayor of Loretto, MN. Loretto is a small town of approximately 600 people located near the Twin Cities. Kent is also the senior captain and second baseman for the Huskies' baseball team.

HCoB alumna and MBA student, Victoria Bizzotto, was recently featured in SCSU's "What's Your World?" campaign.

Victoria wrote, "My world is leading by example. As an undergrad at St. Cloud State I was vice president of business ethics for Students in Free Enterprise, presenting our organization’s positive impact on the community at regional and national conferences in front of thousands of people. After completing management internships with Stearns County, Walgreens and Supervalu, I’m pursuing a master’s in business administration at the same university that molded me into a leader. As the vice president of talent management with the world’s largest youth-run organization, I now recruit, train and develop team members’ skills. I apply my knowledge while mentoring other students, so they may expand on their own leadership experiences."

Congratulations to the Information Systems students who participated in the Digi-Key Collegiate Computing Competition 2010 in Thief River Falls, MN, on October 15, 2010. Tyler Schlecht, Isaac Rego, Colin Blumer, and Brandon Kriesch participated as a team, with Dr. Paul Safonov as their faculty advisor.
