Specializations

The Herberger Business School specializations prepare students to gain advanced specialized knowledge and skills and to strengthen their competitive edge.  Specializations are a great way to focus your business major, develop a professional skill set, utilize open electives in your degree, or continue your education.  Specializations are open to all St. Cloud State students.  Below is a list of the specializations offered in the Business School.  

Insurance Specialization

The Insurance specialization prepares individuals to work in the insurance industry or insurance-related fields such as human resources, risk management, financial planning, accounting, and the medical profession.  To earn an Insurance specialization a student must complete the following courses.  All courses must be passed with a “C- or better.”  For more information about this program visit the Finance Insurance and Real Estate Department.

Business Intelligence Specialization

Business Intelligence is the process to analyze and transfer data into information or knowledge to help better-decision making.  To earn a Business Intelligence specialization a student must complete the following courses, and maintain a 3.00 GPA average in specialization classes.  For more information about this program visit the Information Systems Department

  • IS 443 (Database Design, Implementation and Administration)
  • IS 450 (Strategy, Management and Acquisition)
  • IS 454 (Decision Support Systems)

Information Assurance Specialization

Information assurance is the practice to manage any risk related to data, system, or application.To earn an Information Assurance specialization a student must complete the following courses, and maintain a 3.00 GPA average in specialization classes.   • IS 471 (Policy Development & Security Issues in Information Systems)
  • IS 472 (Security Management & IT Risk Assessment)
  • IS 483 (Client/Server Security)

Professional Selling Specialization

The Professional Selling Specialization was created to meet labor market growth in areas related to professional selling and sales management areas.  To earn a Professional Selling specialization a student must complete the following courses, and must pass MKTG 320 with a “B or better.”  The Professional Selling Specialization is open, via application process, to all SCSU students who have declared and been admitted to their major.  For more information about this program visit the Marketing Department.
