St. Cloud State University (SCSU) has numerous programs for students wishing to earn credit while studying abroad. Education abroad experiences are becoming more important and more popular each year; 283,000 U.S. students study overseas each year, about one-fifth go specifically to study business. Education abroad experiences offer students life changing personal growth experience coupled with valuable career skill development. International experience and global understanding is a critical component of the 21st century education and workforce, and studying abroad is highly valued by employers. The Herberger Business School (HBS) is proud to partner with the university in offering students education abroad programs with a special focus on business.

Alnwick, England

The Alnwick, England, study abroad program is offered in the summer, fall, and spring of each year. The program offers students the unique opportunity to live in a castle and take classes. All students going to Alnwick are required to take courses in British history and contemporary Britain from British faculty.

Students take 12 credits during Summer programs (8 required) / 15 credits during Fall (10 required)

Required: 

  • BRIT 101, Intro to the British Cultural Experience, 1 (1 cr) [Liberal Ed Goal 8]
  • BRIT 201, Intro to the British Cultural Experience, 2 (2 cr) [Liberal Ed Goal 8]
  • BRIT 250, Contemporary Britain (3 cr) [Liberal Ed Goal 5]
  • Summer -- HIST 235, Britain in the Tudor Era (2 cr)
  • Fall -- HIST 335, Reformation to Revolution:  Early Modern Britain, 1529-1689 (4 cr)

Spring 2015 – Mass Communications*

Faculty: Lisa Heinrich (Mass Communications) and Marie Dick (Mass Communications)

Tentative course offerings - pick two electives:

  • COMM 220, Introduction to Mass Communication [Liberal Ed Goal 6]
  • COMM 412, Mass Media Ethics
  • COMM 416, Critical Analysis of the Media
  • COMM 420, Mass Media and Society

*While there are not any business courses offered Spring 2015, this is a good option for business majors considering a minor in mass communications.

Study Business in Germany

  • Beginning German (GER 101, Goal 8)

Study Business in the Netherlands

Application Deadline: October 1 for Spring 2015; March 1, 2015 for Fall 2015

Students take 4 courses during two 8-week periods (two courses each period).  Courses vary by semester/period.

Upcoming Short-term Programs (tentative)

Short term education abroad tours are great options for students who cannot spend a full semester abroad.  Each May after the spring semester ends, the HBS sponsors a 2-3 week study tour to one or more countries.  The program typically involves classroom work prior to departing and during the time abroad, accompanied by a wide array of cultural and business tours.  Students earn 6 upper division business credits.

  • May 2015 - Rome, Florence, Turin and Venice, Italy
  • May 2016 – Paris, London, and Amsterdam
  • May 2016 – Sydney, Brisbane, and Cairns, Australia
