Study International Business Abroad

A scene of IngolstadtSt. Cloud State University (SCSU) has numerous programs for students wishing to earn credit while studying abroad.  Education abroad experiences are becoming more important and more popular each year; 150,000 U.S. students study overseas each year, about one-fifth go specifically to study business.  Education abroad experiences offer students “life-altering” personal growth coupled with valuable career skill development.  The Herberger Business School (HBS) is proud to partner with the university in offering students three education abroad programs with a special focus on business.

Program Overview

As a business student, it's important to become immersed in the global marketplace we are living in today and become more sensitized to global issues and other cultural forces. It is a valuable career building experience that builds self confidence, enhances professional skills and makes you more attractive to future employers.

Consider this:

  • 150,000 U.S. students study abroad each year.
  • Nearly one in five go to study business.
  • U.S. companies derive significant revenues abroad:
    • 50.1% for Proctor and Gamble
    • 57.0% for McDonald's
    • 67.1% for Coca-Cola

In addition, you gain cultural experience, become more tolerant and adaptable, meet new people and have some fun while learning.

How does an Education Abroad Program fit into the HBS Course Work?

Some programs fit perfectly into your required courses, while others may use the courses as major electives. The courses range from being 2-3 weeks to a semester in length.

Short-term programs are often 6 credits and semester programs vary from 15-18 credits.  If you plan for the education abroad program ahead of time, it should not delay your graduation.

Teaching

In Germany you are taking business courses in English with many international students, books are not used and you are graded on one final exam. Alnwick classes are run in the same format as at SCSU with two British faculty teaching courses along with SCSU faculty. On short-term programs some coursework is done prior to departure and while on the 2-3 week program, the intensity level is fairly high as 6 credits is compressed into the short span.
