Fighting Cyber Crime Workshop

Cyber Crime Workshop Flyer Date: February 20-24, 2012
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
St. Cloud State University's Herberger Business School is offering to law enforcement officials five days of training – free – on computer crime and digital forensics techniques on February 20 - 24.  This Cyber Crime Initiative is offered in cooperation with the National Forensics Training Center, a Department of Justice-funded center that has trained more than 1,200 law enforcement officers in the techniques.

The training, to be held on the St. Cloud State campus, is completely free of charge.  Completion of the training is worth up to 40 POST Credits.
To keep up with all aspects of criminal behavior, law enforcement officers increasingly need special training to investigate crimes committed with and against computers.  The training is a response to the increased ease with which people can access the Internet to commit crimes as well as the increased emphasis on issues of homeland security. Participants will learn ways to uncover, protect, and exploit digital evidence to respond to crimes.

For more information or to participate, view the Cyber Crime Workshop flyer or contact SCSU Associate Professor of Business Computer Information Systems Dr. Mark Schmidt, by email at cias@stcloudstate.edu or by phone at (320) 308-4988.

The Business Computer Information Systems program is part of the Herberger Business School. The Herberger Business School prepares students for careers in business and is accredited by AACSB International.

We are asking you to consider supporting Special Olympics through the SCSU Plunge teams.  By going to the website  --  http://www.polarplungemn.org/group/stcloudstateuniversity, you can support the SCSU teams or create your own team (your own team means you would have to plunge).  The options are:
1. Herberger Business School General Donation

2. SCSU General Donation

3. Student clubs by donating to the individual

4. Create your own team or join an existing team and plunge in St. Cloud or any location closer to your home.  Be sure to register under SCSU so we get credit for your contribution.

Thank you for considering our request to support Special Olympics and the SCSU teams.  For more information, view the Top Dog Challenge flyer. If you have any questions, please contact Diane McClure in the Herberger Business School at 320-308-3892 or djmcclure@stcloudstate.edu.

Stuart Henderson, CEO of Western National Insurance

Date: Thursday, November 10, 2011
Time: 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Location: Voyageurs Room, Atwood Memorial Center
Mr. Henderson became CEO of Western in 2001 when the company was in financial crisis. He and his management team transformed the company from near financial insolvency to a company that today is rated "A" (Excellent) by A.M. Best, has won the "Ward's Top 50 Best Insurance Companies" award in four of the last five years, and this past summer was named a "Top 100 Best Workplaces in Minnesota" by the Star Tribune. The remarkable aspect of this turnaround is that Mr. Henderson did not achieve this financial recovery by laying off employees. Instead, while retaining all employees, Mr. Henderson implemented a strategic plan to reduce risk, invested in new technologies, branded the company as "The Relationship Company," solidified agent relationships, overhauled facilities, and became an "Employer of Choice."

Mr. Henderson will speak about his company's turnaround, as well as a number of other topics, including:

--leadership
--the role of technology in achieving competitive advantage
--being a "Best Place to Work/Employer of Choice"
--job opportunities in the insurance industry

The insurance industry is one of the more stable industries for employment. It is also an area with an impending shortage of qualified applicants for positions that range across multiple disciplines, including accounting, investment analysis, sales/marketing, information technology, and human resources. All students and faculty are welcome to attend Mr. Henderson's presentation.
