The Role of the Academic Department and Program Adviser

One of your first contacts with St. Cloud State University is with your departmental office or graduate adviser.

The academic department plays a large role in the graduate experience. The department makes the admission decision and ensures the quality of the curriculum. The academic department has a vested interest in its graduate students because upon completion, its graduates become ambassadors for the graduate program. They want to see you succeed and are happy to assist you throughout your graduate program.

Your program adviser is available to guide you through your program’s requirements. Since your adviser is involved with the day-to-day processes of your graduate program, you should arrange to meet with him/her regularly concerning your progress.
