First Things First - The Basics

Parking

St. Cloud State University maintains 25 parking lots for the use of faculty, staff, students, and guests. Permits are required to park in these designated lots. A permit is required for all lots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. Exceptions include pay lots and metered stalls. No parking is allowed in ANY lot from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Thursday, except for lots A, E, and Q permit holders. Parking regulations are enforced year-round (including summer and semester breaks).

Two kinds of permits are available:

Day

  • For students living on-campus, lots A and E are available at a cost of $250 for the academic year and summer sessions. Lot Q is available for $150 for the academic year and summer sessions.
  • For students living off-campus, lots M and V are available at a cost of $250 for the academic year and summer sessions. Lot K is available for $150 for the academic year and summer sessions.

Evening

  • Evening permits are always available and may be used in most lots after 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • Exceptions are north H Lot, F Lane, two east rows of P Lot, U, S, A, E, Q, metered and pay lots.
  • The cost of an evening permit is $50 per semester.

Pay Lots
Another on-campus parking option is pay lots. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. you can pay .50¢ per hour to park on weekdays in these designated lots. Parking in pay lots is free on weekends. These pay lots are indicated on the campus map. If you will be on-campus for only a short amount of time, you can park outside the Miller Learning Resources Center for 1 hour max at $1 per hour. This lot is not free on weekends.

Parking permits are available through:
Department of Public Safety
525 Fourth Avenue South
320.308.3453

Permits can be obtained year-round. Lots are assigned on a first-come first-serve basis. During the first two weeks of fall semester and the first week of spring semester, Public Safety is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday to accomodate student parking needs. For the remainder of the academic year, permits are available Monday through Friday during regular office hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Weekends – Beginning at 3 p.m. on Fridays, all lots are open until 3 a.m. Monday except for A, E, and Q lot, which are open until 3 p.m. on Sunday, when enforcement resumes for residence hall students.

Summer Parking

  • Effective May 14, 2007 all student lots (yellow signs) will require a parking permit.
  • 2006-07 permits will be valid through the end of First Summer Session July 13, 2007
  • 2007-08 permits will be effective through the end of Second Summer Session 2008.
  • A summer only permit can be purchsed from Public Safety for $50.
  • Permits cannot be transferred to another individual for the summer as this will be considered a fraudulent permit.
  • Overnight parking is available in lots A1, A2 and E Lots for students residing on campus.
  • Student resident lots (Yellow Signs) are enforced Sunday beginning at 3:00 p.m. through Friday at 3:00 p.m.
  • There is no parking in all other student lots from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.

State Observed Holidays – Student lots will be open to anyone on state observed holidays, when classes are not in session.

Snow Removal and Lot Maintenance - Effective annually from November 1 through March 31.

  • Parking Lots A (A-1, A-2, and A-3) and E lot may need to be vacated on Wednesdays between 3-6 p.m., to support snow removal and lot maintenance. Note: On each and every Wednesday in this time span, please check with Public Safety prior to 3 p.m. or look for hall-posted notifications to learn if such snow removal and/or maintenance will actually occur.
  • Notification is made to residence halls by Wednesday. Vehicles must be moved for both snow removal and lot maintenance.
  • Q Lot must be vacated between the hours of 1-5 p.m. on all Saturdays during this time span (November 1 – March 31). No exceptions are made. This action supports snow removal and lot maintenance in Q Lot. Vehicles in Q Lot may be moved on Fridays after 3 p.m. to any other overnight lot (A or E) as long as they are moved back to Q lot by the following Sunday at 3 p.m. when overnight lot parking enforcement resumes. Citations will be issued for non-compliance. Towing at owner/operator's expense may be necessary to perform University operations.

Carpool

  • Carpool spaces are available on first come, first served basis.
  • There must be three or more students/employees who commute together, and live a minimum of 15 miles away, one way. Permit approval is granted by the parking coordinator.
  • Applications must be filled out and turned in to the parking coordinator. Allow a few days for approval. The parking coordinator may be reached at 320.308.3453.
  • The electronic board is designed to connect drivers that can provide transportation with riders in need of transportation. The specific arrangements are made directly between the two parties involved. The new service might help meet a need over the upcoming holiday season when many students will be heading home or to other destinations. It is also available to help drivers and riders to find each other if they are interessted in carpooling. The link can be found on Atwood's main web page: http://www.stcloudstate.edu/atwood/
