Graduate Assistant Supervisors
We are delighted that you will be hiring and supervising graduate assistants. Your time and energy in supervising graduate students in academically relevant experiences contributes significantly to the quality of education at St. Cloud State University.
The following information is intended to assist in the hiring and supervision of graduate assistants. Departments and supervisors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the information provided for both students and supervisors to facilitate a beneficial assistantship.
Online Hiring System
The School of Graduate Studies uses an online system to store position descriptions, create student GA appointments, and complete the employment request and approval process. All GA appointments, employment requests, and approvals for FY 17 will be completed in this system.

2016-2017 Employment Dates
Graduate assistant employment dates generally reflect the employment dates of University faculty. The dates for fall and spring semesters are as follows:
Fall 2016 August 16, 2016 – December 16, 2016
Spring 2017 January 4, 2017 – May 5, 2017
These dates represent a guideline for graduate assistants and employers. Departments and supervisors may identify different start and end dates based on position responsibilities. The last day to make/accept an assistantship offer for Fall 2016 is Friday, September 2. Positions will be processed after September 2 at the discretion of the School of Graduate Studies. If permitted, stipends will be pro-rated and the tuition remission available may be reduced. Please Note: All graduate assistants are required to be enrolled full-time (a minimum of 8 graduate or 6 doctoral credits) to be eligible for an assistantship. Assistantships are designed to support full-time enrollment and facilitate timely completion.
Graduate Assistant Orientation
Participation in GA Orientation is expected for all new graduate assistants. Please notify students at the point of hiring of the date and time of orientation.
