The stipend/salary for summer 2011 employment is $16.00 per hour. No tuition remission is available during the summer term. The student must be enrolled in a minimum of six graduate credits during the summer to maintain the assistantship.
The research assistant (RA) will assist faculty members in the Department of Criminal Justice Studies in data collection, survey, and other social research. May perform publication activities, quality control, or data management. Normally these individuals work under the direct supervision of a faculty member and assist in those activities which are more routine. Learning Outcomes •The RA will demonstrate an ability to write clearly for academic and public audiences. •The RA will prepare online statistical materials for use by general practitioners in public affairs. •The RA will solve problems related to data management in creative ways.
Admitted graduate student; Knowledge, experience, and ability requirements for Research Assistant: •Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. •Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. •Writing — Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. •Quantitative and computative – Understanding the structure of data, and the ability to manipulate for presentations. Providing data to end-users online.
