In addition to the salary/stipend, both full-time and part-time graduate assistants are eligible for partial tuition remission based on appointment type.
General Description The Gender Violence Prevention Program Graduate Assistant will be responsible for the following: • Conduct educational programs related to safety and sexual violence prevention, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking and other issues related to oppression of women such as sexism, women in advertising etc., as requested, including classroom presentations. • Assist in developing posters, publicity, social media planning, etc. to advertise events and message campaigns to raise awareness and prevent gender violence. • Assist in coordinating events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. • Support bystander education programming to reduce gender violence on campus. This assistance may include supervising interns, conducting educational programming with student organizations and classroom presentations, and coordinating trainings. • Provide support and advocacy to survivors of sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, sexual harassment and stalking. This includes legal advocacy, SCSU judicial or Title IX advocacy and medical advocacy. Support services include individual and group support. • Provide information and referral about available campus and community resources. • As requested, assist with student notification process, respond to inquiries about the Respect and Consent program and meet with students requesting the individual alternative to the on-line program. • Assist with brochure development as needed. • Assist with grant writing as needed. • Assist with statistical & year-end reports. • Co-advise the student organization, Students for Sexual Consent (SSC). • Represent the Women’s Center at various campus and community events. • Participate in weekly staff meetings; assist in establishing and accomplishing annual goals. • Network with University and community organizations. • Other duties as assigned. This is a 20 hour a week position that may include occasional evenings, weekends and additional hours.
Qualifications: Must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in women’s studies, human relations, sociology, counseling, social work, mass communications, psychology, or related field. Candidate must have the 40-hour Sexual Assault Advocacy certificate or be willing to pursue this training immediately upon hire. Candidate must have a solid working knowledge of women’s issues, including gender violence and its root causes. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential. Public Speaking experience is helpful. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and social justice. Program development and supervisory experience helpful. Must have a working knowledge of Windows/Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and social media tools.
