In addition to the salary/stipend, both full-time and part-time graduate assistants are eligible for partial tuition remission based on appointment type. The stipend/salary for summer 2011 employment is $16.00 per hour. No tuition remission is available during the summer term. The student must be enrolled in a minimum of six graduate credits during the summer to maintain the assistantship.

Responsibilities:

This graduate assistantship provides student services to SCSU’s graduate students, through employment in the School of Graduate Studies. Specialized responsibilities include format review of culminating projects, coordinating binding shipment, planning and marketing culminating project workshops, supporting graduate students in the culminating projects phase through maintaining the D2L support site, meeting with students individually and in groups, and supporting the development of ETDs. GA will have opprotunities to develop workshops, training materials, and to collaborate with other academic and administrative units.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be fully admitted to a graduate degree program. Students enrolled in the English, History, College Counseling and Student Development, Educational Administration or Higher Education Administration programs are encouraged to apply, as well as students from other programs with desired skills.

Demonstrated Traits:

Strong communication, solid writing and editing skills, and interpersonal skills are desired. Exceptional attention to detail is needed. Additionally, a working ability in Excel, and Microsoft Office is also desired. A graduate assistant should possess these qualities to match the office’s setting - ability to multi-task, and be a self-starter, reliable and genial.
