Welcome to the School of Graduate Studies and St. Cloud State University!
We are pleased that you have decided to pursue a graduate education with us. Now that you are here, you probably have many questions like, “Where do I park?”; “How do I obtain my ID card?”; “How do I register for classes?” This online orientation attempts to answer these questions and more.
The School of Graduate Studies is located in Room 121 of the Administrative Services Building in the center of campus. Our phone number is (320) 308-2113. Feel free to visit or call us anytime you need assistance.
The Role of the Graduate School
The School of Graduate Studies functions as a college within the University. The Graduate Studies staff maintains all academic records and oversees the academic progress of all graduate students. Once a student has been accepted to graduate study at SCSU, the School of Graduate Studies works with the academic department to ensure completion of the necessary course work for degree completion. The School of Graduate Studies also oversees the academic graduation of the student, and the conferring of degrees.
Students work with the School of Graduate Studies when making changes to their degree program, such as adviser changes and petitions.
Meet the Staff
The School of Graduate Studies staff is here to assist you during admittance to and completion of your graduate degree. At some point during your stay with us, you will need to enlist the services of our staff. We are happy to help and wish you the best of luck.
The Role of the Academic Department and Program Adviser
One of your first contacts with St. Cloud State University is with your departmental office or graduate adviser.
The academic department plays a large role in the graduate experience. The department makes the admission decision and ensures the quality of the curriculum. The academic department has a vested interest in its graduate students because, upon completion, they become ambassadors for the graduate program. They want to see you succeed and are happy to assist you.
Your program adviser is available to guide you through your program’s requirements. Since your adviser is involved with the day-to-day processes of your graduate program, you should arrange to meet with him/her regularly concerning your progress.
