Traffic Safety Education/Drivers Education (Graduate Certificate)

The Traffic Safety Education/Drivers Education graduate certificate program is an option for you if you have a Tier III or Tier IV Minnesota Professional Teaching License. The program will prepare you to teach driver’s education in a public, private or commercial school setting. You will learn how to teach students important life skills while improving driving skills. The program combines theories of instruction with practical application.

Although the Graduate Certificate program is for Tier III or Tier IV Minnesota professionally licensed teachers only, other K-12 Minnesota pre-service teachers looking to add a driver education endorsement onto their initial license will be directed into the Undergraduate Certificate. Already licensed driver education instructors looking to simply update their knowledge and skills, and those not eligible for/not in possession of a Minnesota Professional Teaching License must apply through St. Cloud State’s non-degree seeking Undergraduate route.

Program Highlights

• Designed for full-time or part-time students.

• Designed for working teachers.

• The five-course program is designed to be completed in one to two semesters.

• Approved by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board, and designed to meet licensing requirements in the state of Minnesota. Students attending as undergraduates from other states must check with their own state for specific licensure requirements.

• Undergraduate Certificate available to K-12 pre-service teachers looking to add a driver education endorsement onto their initial license.

• Non-degree seeking Undergraduate coursework available for commercial driver education schools or others not eligible for/not in possession of a Minnesota Professional Teaching License.  Students attending as Undergraduates from states other than Minnesota must check with their own state for specific licensure requirements.

Program Distinctions

• Meets the requirements for licensure set by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver Education Unit, the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association and the Minnesota Driver and Traffic Safety Education professional organizations. 
• Approved by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board — students from states other than Minnesota should check with their own state for specific licensure requirements.
