Community Calendar of Events

Gay and Bisexual Men’s Group (GAB)
5:30 pm dinner on Tues, Nov. 14th at Park Diner, followed by bowling at 7 pm at Vilo Lanes.
Sat. Dec. 2: Cheer Dorothy Cheer! At 8 pm, Red Carpet Private Function room in downtown St. Cloud.

Residence Hall Association’s No Hate Campaign presents:
TJ Leyden, who after 15 years as a neo-Nazi white supremacist activist and recruiter experienced a profound change of heart, turned away from hate, and began teaching tolerance. Tuesday, Nov. 28th at 7 pm in the Ritsche Auditorium. Free with a Q&A after presentation.

Rainbow Flag Presentation
Dr. Tracey Ore will be giving a presentation on the importance of the Rainbow Flag for the LGBT Community on Nov. 29 from 5-6 pm. Location TBA. This is an excellent opportunity for campus members questioning the flag’s presence on campus to become informed!

Guys and Balls (of yarn)
St. Cloud Men’s Knitting Group will be meeting every 2nd and 4th Tuesday each month at Mississippi Bean. If you don’t know how to knit, then come learn! Contact Jason@johnmark.net for more details.

Reconciling in Christ Leadership Training
University Lutheran Church will be hosting a Reconciling in Christ Leadership Training, a 3-day hands-on workshop to give participants skills and a knowledge base to expand teams of openly welcoming people of all sexual orientations and gender identities within area congregations. Volunteer!

GLBT Services always invites students, faculty, and staff to volunteer and contribute in presenting, planning events, and more.  Let us know if you are interested in being part of our safe space office.  We are currently looking for volunteers who are willing to be in the center for any amount of time throughout the week to welcome any students, faculty, or staff who may come in.

Human Rights Center Gift Drive
Please drop off new, unwrapped toys for children between the ages of 4-14. Drop off boxes located in Residence Halls and in Atwood! Nov. 27th- Dec. 11th. Sponsored by Volunteer Connection and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

Cultural Diversity Committee is inviting representatives from each cultural organization at SCSU to join the Cultural Diversity Committee meetings on Mondays at 5:30 at the Born of Hunger Center. For more info, contact sga-cd@stcloudstate.edu

Rainbow Sash Research
A graduate student at the College of St. Catherine is looking for participants for thesis research who are baptized Catholics age 19 and older who have been denied communion while wearing the Rainbow Sash. OutFront Minnesota invites members and friends of the GLBT community to take part in an anonymous online survey of attitudes and issues related to the legal recognition - or lack thereof - of same-sex couples.  The survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete and asks your perspectives. Your responses will help inform OutFront Minnesota's public policy and education efforts on issues of concern to same-sex couples and their families. GLBTQ students and study abroad
College of St. Benedict’s and St. John’s University are working on a DVD about GLBTQ students and their experiences in studying abroad and ask GBLTQ students to share their perspectives and stories in study abroad programs. Parental Support for Gay Men and Lesbians
A doctoral candidate is conducting research to learn more about the aspects of parental social support for gay men and lesbians and requests participation in completing a brief series of questionnaires. GLBT Alliance

The GLBT Alliance is a student organization which provides support within a social environment. Meetings are held weekly during the academic year. glbta@stcloudstate.edu.

Outloud!

Outloud! is an activist-oriented group responsible for planning Out Proud Week and other attention-grabbing events. It is a student organization whose theme is to build bridges and coalitions. GLBT Services has a growing media library that consists of fiction and reference books & video resources and is available to students, faculty and staff.  We offer literature and videos on a range of topics: coming out, gay marriage, the gay/lesbian movement, trans concerns, bisexuality, etc.  Stop by to check out or look through any resources that interest you.

St. Cloud State Counseling and Psychological Services Center

Are you GLBT and having difficulty coming out?  The SCSU Counseling Center is free to students and supportive of GLBT people. Please contact the counseling center at 308-3171 or the GLBT Services office at 308-5166 for more information.

 

Center for Therapeutic Choices

Counseling services are available at the Center for Therapeutic Choices in downtown St. Cloud.
