Invisibly Queer
At 2 pm on Thurs, Feb. 1st, speaker Teo Yother welcomes an open discussion around the lessons he has learned about what it is to be a man or a woman, the transgender journey, and life in general. Sponsored by GLBT Servies and Non-Violent Alternatives (NOVA).

Spring Welcome Back Potluck
Bring your favorite food dish to share with others, socialize, and meet new friends at 7 pm in Lawrence Hall basement on Wed, Feb 7th! Sponsored with GLBT Alliance.

Tuesday’s Queer Film Series

GAB (Gay and Bisexual Men’s Group)
5:30 dinner on Feb. 6th will be at Godfather’s Pizza, followed by 7 pm karaoke/pool/darts at Vilo Lanes. Dinner on the 13th will be at Park Diner followed by rendezvous at Vilo Lanes. Saturday, Feb. 17th is Cheer Dorothy Cheer! 8 pm show preceding 9 pm social hour and dancing from 10-2 (Red Carpet Private Function room).

 

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Speaks
Dr.
Wangari Maathai, founder of The Green Belt Movement, will be speaking Jan. 31st at 7:30 pm in Ritsche Auditorium.

Gender Youth Leadership Summit 
The Gender Youth Network is hosting “Bridge the Gap 2007 Leadership Summit” May 17-19th in Washington, D.C. It is an action orientated gathering of youth and students organizing around gender as a fundamental human right. Take action with activists across the country! Colin Higgins Foundation is requesting nominations for its Youth Courage Awards that salutes LGBTQ individuals demonstrating courage in the face of adversity.

Rich Murray Volunteer Service Scholarship
This $500 award is given to one SCSU student who has demonstrated a commitment of giving through volunteerism while enrolled at SCSU. Available to any SCSU student. Deadline is Feb. 16th at 4 pm to Volunteer Connection (AMC 139).

Volunteer!

GLBT Services always invites students, faculty, and staff to volunteer and contribute in presenting, planning events, and more.  Let us know if you are interested in being part of our safe space office.  We are currently looking for volunteers who are willing to be in the center for any amount of time throughout the week to welcome any students, faculty, or staff who may come in.

Certificate in Volunteer Leadership

Ph.D. students are seeking participants to share their positive or negative experiences during college that could have implications for how college administrators might better serve LGBTQ students. Outloud!

Transportation Service available to SCSU students, faculty, and staff. An electronic board is designed to connect drivers who can provide transportation to those in need of transportation. GLBT Services has a growing media library that consists of fiction and reference books & video resources and is available to students, faculty and staff.  We offer literature and videos on a range of topics: coming out, gay marriage, the gay/lesbian movement, trans concerns, bisexuality, etc.  Stop by to check out or look through any resources that interest you.
