Health Services Management intern

The Health Services Management Intern will take direction from Opportunity Manor’s Golden Opportunities Program Director to perform a multitude of tasks related to developing, marketing, and managing a gerontology program within a non-profit organization.  Students will have the unique opportunity to assist in designing exactly what areas they want to focus on during the internship.

This is an invaluable opportunity for students who are interested in gaining first-hand insight into all aspects of management of a gerontology program for a non-profit health services organization.  Not only will the Health Services Management Intern gain knowledge into the world of a non-profit, but will also improve their understanding of Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease, the role management plays within the program and the regulations surrounding this exciting field! In addition, the Health Services Management Intern may also have the opportunity to work with consumers, family members and community members to help gain a better understanding of the Golden Opportunities program and the role it plays in the community.

My Medicare Matters (graduate student intern)

The My Medicare Matters campaign is looking for dynamic, detailoriented graduate (public administration, policy, law, or other) students for a 10 week fulltime internship program with My Medicare Matters and related programs at the National Council on Aging in Washington DC during the Summer of 2010. Prior demonstrated interest in Medicare, Medicaid and/or poverty among older persons is a prerequisite to be considered for this position.
Responsibilities:
• Assisting in the provision of technical assistance and training to communitybased organizations providing Medicare and related entitlement benefits counseling and assistance to elders and younger adults with disabilities
• Updating developments regarding state eligibility criteria and applicationsprocesses for needs-based public benefits programs and helping community organizations to provide consumers with accurate information;
• Exploring and supporting local and statewide initiatives related outreach and enrollment into Medicare and related entitlement benefits for elders and younger adults with disabilities;Updating data on the percentages of seniors who are eligible and who are enrolled in federal needs-based benefits programs;
• Updating the My Medicare Matters and My Medicare Community Web sites to ensure both sites are current;
• Other work as assigned.

We provide a stipend or cooperate with externship programs that enable students to earn academic credit. Our summer interns have ample opportunities to attend policy briefings, Congressional
Hearings and other policy-related events and to network with interns at other national organizations that work on aging and Medicare issues to the extent possible.

Community outreach and volunteer services intern

Senior Services Intern

Job Summary: The Senior Services Intern is a new opportunity that involves assisting with our Senior Dining and Meals on Wheels programs. This position will assist staff at the Senior Dining sites, implement a monthly department newsletter and work on media / press releases. 

 

Activities:  Some activities will include assisting at dining sites.

Writing / Implementing a departmental newsletter

Writing press / news releases

Working with the media in reporting on the press releases

 

Responsibilities:  

 

Hours:  Flexible hours available: Minimum of 15 - 20 hours/week 

 

REQUIREMENTS  

Education:  Student training toward a degree in Communication, English, Literature, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Marketing or a related field. Experience in a computer office environment preferred. 

 

Experience:  This position will handle some projects independently and will work with intermittent supervision. The job requires the ability to write clearly and creatively. The position will work with a variety of people both within and outside the organization.

Foster Grandparent Program Intern

Program Name: Foster Grandparent Program 

Location:  157 Roosevelt Road, St. Cloud, MN 56301 

 

Job Summary: The Intern will be part of the Foster Grandparent team at Catholic Charities. The Foster Grandparent program (FGP) is one of 13 FGP's in the country. They currently have over 250 Foster grandparents that work with children from different school districts and/or special units of school districts. 

 

Activities:  The Foster Grandparent Program Intern works closely with the Foster Grandparent Program staff as support for the overall management of the program.

 

The Intern may be responsible for:

 

1) Outreach & public relations: including preparing displays, media articles, writing and distributing news releases, Public Service Announcements, articles, etc.

 

2) Recruitment of new Foster Grandparent volunteers, including initial contacts, interviewing, orientating, and placing new volunteers.

 

3) Program management: including maintaining Foster Grandparent records, recognition activities, and planning & executing an annual evaluation of one aspect of the program.
