Languages look great on a resume.

Did you know that by the year 2050, 29% of the US population will be Hispanic?  Spanish will be even more useful than it already is. And that 19% of US citizens will be foreign- born? (source: Pew Research http://www.pewhispanic.org/2008/02/11/us-population-projections-2005-2050/

You will not have to leave the US to speak or hear a language other than English. You already don't.

And did you know that according to the US 2010 Census, China, Japan and Russian are in the top 10 most populated countries in the world.  (source US Census http://www.census.gov/popclock/)  China is number 1, Russian and Japanese roll in at numbers 9 and 10.  You can take these languages with us!

Did you know that German is spoken by 100 million speakers in 5 countries and two regions?  And did you know that English is a Germanic language?   (source:  http://www.languagehelpers.com/languagefacts/german.html)   And 38.4% of Minnesotans are of German heritage. Spanish is spoken by 329 million native speakers?   Spanish ranks as the world's No. 2 language.   More people speak Spanish than English!  It is ahead of English (with 328 million) but behind Chinese (1.2 billion). (Source: Ethnologue)

And Spanish has at least 3 million native speakers in 44 countries, making it the fourth geographically widely spoken language after English (112 countries), French (60) and Arabic (57). (Source: Ethnologue)

There are jobs!

The Army, NYPD and State Department can't get enough workers with this job skill. Neither can Fortune 500 companies, hospitals, local courts and schools.

What is it? Fluency in a foreign language.

A CareerBuilder.com keyword search lists over 17,000 jobs for bilingual applicants.

On average, bilingual pay ranges between 5 and 20% per hour more, according to Salary.com.

Court Interpreters earn 270-388$ a day!

Medical Interpreters earn between 180-210$ per day.

The US Bureau of Labor calculates the job market growth rate for interpreters at 42% and most states cannot meet the demands for interpreters right now!
