Foreign Languages

Mission

We live in a multilingual world. There are opportunities in business and professional life for educated people with a command of one or more foreign languages.  Department of Languages and Cultures works to provide students with thorough language and literacy preparation for future language studies, as well as for careers in business, teaching, and other enterprises that require international awareness and language proficiency.  The department plays a significant role in promoting cultural diversity at SCSU and advancing external relationships with campuses and institutions of higher learning around the world. We sponsor and promote outreach to local schools and community and state organizations.

Vision

To best serve the student of Languages and Cultures, the department hopes to continue refining and expanding its current offerings.  The importance of Spanish in the contemporary United States means increased attention paid to improving and expanding Spanish courses and study abroad opportunities.  The department also recognizes the growing presence of the Chinese language in the business world and hopes to expand its offerings from introductory courses to a more comprehensive program covering Chinese language and culture.  The department also continues to focus on enhancing its presence on campus and in the global community by sustain and creating new partnerships with Universities like those in Chile and Germany.
