Financial aid generally come from four different sources: the federal government, state government, the institution the student plans to attend or from private sources such as businesses or organizations. There are basically four types of financial aid: scholarships,
grants, employment,
and student loans that fall into
one of two categories, "need-based" or "non need-based."
Need-based aid awards mean that the family's income and assets
will be taken into consideration when determining the student's
financial aid eligibility. Non need-based financial aid means that
the student is eligible regardless of family income. Grants are generally need-based, but there are scholarships, work
opportunities, and student loans that are also non need-based. Our office will assist you in determining your eligibility for
all types of aid from all sources.
Remember, SCSU's cost of attendance is affordable and all students are eligible for
some type of assistance so it is important to apply for financial aid.
