Applying For Financial Aid

Announcements - Forms - Entrance Loan Counseling - Frequently Asked Questions - Contact Us

Because your eligibility may change from one year to the next based on your family circumstances, you must apply for financial aid every academic year.

  • If you applied for financial aid in the previous academic year, your Renewal FAFSA should be available on-line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/complete004.jsp. You will need your federal PIN in order to access your Renewal FAFSA. There may be multiple aid years listed for the FAFSA; be careful to select the correct aid year to complete the Renewal FAFSA.
  • If you did not apply for financial aid in the previous academic year, you should apply for a federal PIN on-line at www.pin.ed.gov and then complete the "Application Process" steps listed below. Parents of dependent students can also apply for a federal PIN to act as their signature at www.pin.ed.gov.

Your PIN acts your electronic signature when you apply for financial aid on-line.

Application Process

You and your family should complete your federal income tax returns as soon as possible after January 1. Having completed tax returns will make the application process much easier.

After you have completed your federal income tax returns, you are ready to apply for financial aid. There are two steps to apply for financial aid at SCSU.

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
SCSU's Federal School Code is: 002377. You may want to use the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet to assist you in filling out the FAFSA.

  2. Complete the SCSU Application for Financial Aid. Remember to select the correct aid year for the application. The SCSU Application for Financial Aid should be completed and returned to our office along with copies of both parent and student federal income tax returns and wage statements (W2s and 1099).

NOTE: If you or your family experience a substantial change in income due to death, disability, unemployment or other similar circumstances, submit a letter of explanation of your situation with your SCSU Application for Financial Aid. If you have already submitted your application, send a separate letter of your situation for us to review.
