||Special Events. Some of the Edible Book Festival entries on display in the library of the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center Monday, April 24, are likely to be as sweet as the cupcakes that will be served after the competition. Decorated cakes are a staple of Edible Book Contests the world over, but by no means are they the only type of entry.
The festival, a competition of entries created of edible materials that must look like a book or be inspired by a book title, character or scene, will be one of many like events celebrated around the world.
Entries from previous years have included A Wrinkle in Thyme, Hamlette and Blueberries for Sal.
Admission is free, but pre-registration is required. Registration must be submitted by 12 p.m. (noon) on April 23 by completing the form linked online at http://lrts.stcloudstate.edu/showcase/ediblebooks. All participants will receive a certificate and recognition on the library’s Facebook page; prizes will be awarded for the top three Fan Favorites.
The public display of the festival entries and voting for the Fan Favorite awards will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The awards ceremony will begin in the library atrium at 2 p.m., followed by light refreshments.
