||Special Events. About 100 fourth- to eighth-graders from schools around the state will compete in the preliminary round, answering a variety of world geography
questions from a panel of judges beginning at 9 a.m. in the Atwood Memorial
Center. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in
their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public
awareness about geography. The top ten students will advance to the final round, at
11:30 a.m. in Ritsche Auditorium, which will be moderated this year by KARE-11
morning anchor and SCSU alumnus, Jeremiah Jacobsen.
