||Special Events. On Tuesday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Atwood Theater, members of the new SCSU student organization, S.T.A.R.S. (Students Taking Action in Recovery and Service), will be hosting the first local viewing of the film, "The Anonymous People". Following the film will be an open discussion about recovery and how to support fellow students, staff, faculty, and community members in their sobriety.
“Anonymous People” is a documentary that showcases the effectiveness of recovery, society’s current stigmatization of addiction, and how few people outside of recovery and the medical community have a true understanding of addiction. Furthermore, “Anonymous People” makes it clear that addiction (and recovery) touches everyone’s life. Everyone knows someone who either struggles with addiction or is in recovery. Yet, the public rarely hears from this group of people. As a result, the public fails to understand these peoples’ challenges, triumphs, and connections. Students, staff, faculty, and community members are encouraged to attend. Grant funds provided by The Stacie Mathewson Foundation and Transforming Youth in Recovery made the showing of this film possible.
