ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE CONTINUES THEIR FALL SEASON WITH A PRODUCTION OF Stop Kiss
A script by Diana Son
Directed by Vladimir Rovinsky
Callie and Sara are two strangers who meet in New York City by chance. The two young women spend a short time together talking about their boyfriends and life, but this meeting will change their lives forever. The two soon discover that they have fallen unexpectedly and unwillingly in-love with each other.
The inner dynamics of Callie and Sara’s relationship – funny, touching, sometimes tense, and sometimes full of hidden sexual tension – suggest that it is not very different from the dynamics of a straight relationship; however, their first shy kiss leads to devastating violence and an astonishing chain of events is set into motion. For our current global society, which can alternately legalize or criminalize love, Stop Kiss serves as both a valentine and a warning, powerfully addressing love, hatred and the difficulties of living life fully.
Diana Son tells her story very cinematically: short episodes, momentary transitions from place to place, as well as from past to present. To acuminate this structure, seats for the play are located in the middle of the stage and surrounded by four acting areas that are connected to each other by runways. This structure allows a team of talented actors to move fluently from one setting to another, acting all around the spectators.
The show will take place on the Arena Stage of the Performing Arts Center, and will begin at 7:30 p.m. from Nov. 19th through 23rd, closing with a matinee performance on the 24th at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10, $7 for students and seniors, and free with SCSU I.D. Tickets are available at the Atwood Center (320-308-4636) or scsutickets.com
