National Origin & Immigrant Worker Discrimination Issues?

Description: Speakers. Maria Flores, Program Analyst, U.S. EEOC is visiting SCSU as part of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commissionís education and outreach initiatives. Maria began her tenure with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in 1991 as the EEOC Milwaukee District Officeís first Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) Investigator. In 2001 and 2004, she received national EEOC Chair awards for her collaborative work and successful resolution of high-profile, immigrant worker cases which had national impact and significant litigation results. She has helped to develop national outreach materials for the E-RACE Initiative on race and color discrimination; the EEOCís national training course on the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA); and EEOCís bilingual (English/Spanish) radio public service announcements (PSAs) targeting farm worker youth on a national level. Maria volunteers her time by actively serving on a number of diverse nonprofit boards and committees committed to diversity, civil rights, restorative justice, and the arts. She is a graduate of Marquette University where she received her B.A. in Liberal Arts (double majors), received outstanding minority achievement awards, and was inducted into several international honor societies.
