D2L and Pedagogy: A Practical Guide for Learning and Teaching November 14, 2-3PM Miller Center, 205 (second floor, by the elevator) campus map: http://www.stcloudstate.edu/campusmap/building.asp?bldgAbbr=MC, http://www.stcloudstate.edu/campusmap/tours/miller2.asp “While campuses have adopted CMSs on a wide scale, few studies have looked at how the design and use of a CMS affects pedagogy, and instructors rarely discuss how a CMS affects their teaching.” (Lane, 2008) “Course management systems, by virtue of their intent and design, create limitations on faculty independence of instruction.” “In order to establish constructivist (or any alternative) pedagogy inside the CMS, it is necessary to come into the course design process with a well-developed sense of what is possible in the online environment.” “Even after several years of working with the CMS, faculty pleas for help tend to focus on what the technology can do, rather than how their pedagogical goals can be achieved.” Lane, L.
