TESL MA Courses: Pedagogy: 15 credits

Students are required to take five courses related to the theories and practical applications of TESL/TEFL teaching methods.  Students choosing the K-12 ESL licensure courses might take the courses marked with an asterisk.  Students who want to teach adults more than children might avoid these same courses.

Required:  two courses:  6 credits.

English 661:  Theories of Second Language Acquisition, 3 credits;
OR
*English 671:  Seminar in Child Bilingualism, 3 credits;
AND
English 662:  Seminar in TESL Methods, 3 credits.

Optional Courses:  Choose three courses:  9 credits

If not taken above:

English 661:  Theories of Second Language Acquisition, 3 credits;
OR
English 671:  Seminar in Child Bilingualism, 3 credits:
And
English 668:  Research in TESL, 3 credits.
And
English 667:  Assessment, Evaluation, and Testing in TESL, 3 credits;
English 670:  Vocabulary Acquisition, 3 credits;
English 673:  Seminar in TESL and Culture, 3 credits;
*ED 601:  Literacy for Second Language Learners*, 3 credits; and
*ED 601:  Bilingual-Bicultural Education*, 3 credits.

Please note that students can take more courses in Pedagogy, and they would count as an elective in the program.

*These online courses use a topics course number in the Department of Teacher Education.  Please note the course title when signing up for these courses.
