Summer ESL Camp - Mentors
The mentor is a college student who has been selected because of his or her academic or personal interest in international education. Many former mentors where undergraduate or graduate students in the TESL BA or MA program at St. Cloud State University. Some mentors have had international experiences of their in places such as Japan, Korea, or China. Others have plans to be international exchange students. Some mentors have loved this experience so much that they have continued with the program for five and six years.
Mentor Daily Activities
The mentors spend the most time with the students and the relationship between the mentor and the students is the most important component of the Summer ESL Camps. Mentors:
- begin the day by taking the students to the cafeteria for breakfast
- drop them off at their ESL classes
- pick them up for lunch
- take them to afternoon activities
- bring them to the cafeteria for dinner
- take them out during the evening activities; and
- bring them back to the dormitory.
The mentors live in the dormitory with the students and work with the students until 10:00 pm every evening. In addition, mentors go with the whole group for weekend activities.
