Summer ESL Camp - Mentor Groups
Generally speaking, twelve is the basic group number for Summer ESL Camps.
- Twelve students will make up on ESL class.
- mentor groups of six or four will be combined to form one ESL class;
- roommates from two or three rooms will be combined to form one mentor group.
Typically, we prefer to group students by age rather than by language proficiency. We group students in this fashion for two reasons:
1) the students have never been in class with their seniors or juniors and such an experience can inhibit their classroom participation, and
2) the ESL lessons focus much more on using English in social situations which should be new for most students.
