Summer ESL Camp - Homestay Weekend
The Homestay Weekend
In the last 12 years, over one hundred different families from Central Minnesota have welcomed about 700 ESL students into their homes for the Homestay Weekend. In every case, these families have connections with university or with the permanent staff of the Summer ESL Camp. This weekend begins with the students being picked up before dinner on a Friday and then returned after dinner on Sunday.
For this weekend, the students and the families are matched by their interests. Students who love the beach and water sports might be matched with a family that has a cabin on a lake. Students with musical interests might be matched with families with similar interests. Students who are interested in the arts are matched with families that like to go to Museums.
For the weekend, the families are encouraged to engage in typical Minnesota
weekend activities. The families participate in this program as a service
to the university.
