Summer ESL Camp - ESL Classes

The ESL classes are interactive with a focus on communication and participation in social activities beyond the classroom. The classes are designed so that students focus on specific social functions of English for the activities that the students will participate in that afternoon or evening.

For example, in the restaurant lesson, students:

  • begin with a vocabulary lesson on restaurant food,
  • practice with “or” questions that waiters generally use again and again:
    1. Small, medium or large?
    2. Tossed or Caesar salad?
    3. Baked potato, French fries or rice pilaf? and
  • use local menus to order food from their teacher/waiters.

That evening each mentor will take his or her group of students go to a different restaurant where each student is required to order something different from the menu.

We have written our own Summer ESL Camp textbook for these classes.
