The Flu and You

Previous Updates: September 14, 2009

Student Health Services medical staff has seen a number of cases of influenza-like illness consistent with H1N1 on campus and is answering an increasing number of related questions via phone.

We encourage you to read “What to do About the Flu,” http://www.stcloudstate.edu/healthservices/documents/
WhatYouCanDoAbouttheFlu.pdf
for instructions on making your personal plan so you’re prepared in case you do get sick.

Faculty, staff and students should self-isolate (as described in the above document) if they get flu-like symptoms, which are defined as fever greater than 100 with either cough or sore throat.

We are following U.S. Centers for Disease Control recommendations on H1N1. It is important for faculty, staff and students to plan for absenteeism, to be flexible and to communicate clearly with each other. Health Services will not be providing notes to confirm illness.

Seasonal flu vaccine is available now and a vaccine for H1N1 is expected to be available around November 2009.

We will keep you updated as conditions warrant. The latest information may always be found at www.stcloudstate.edu/emergency
