Bomb Threat

IF YOU RECEIVE A BOMB THREAT:

  1. Remain calm and do not panic others.
  2. Follow directions below pertaining to how the threat was received.
  3. Notify SCSU Public Safety (308-3333).  
  4. Call 911
    1. Have the threat-related information available to answer the dispatcher’s questions.
    2. What to tell them:
      1. Tell them your name speak slowly and spell your last name)
      2. Tell them your location:
        • St. Cloud State University 
        • Building name and/or location
      3. Identify the emergency
        • Bomb threat
        • How it was received
      4. Request officer response (specific location to which to respond).
      5. Provide call back number (hard phone or cellular phone).
  5. Do NOT discuss with others unless directed to do so by authorities.

BOMB THREAT BY TELEPHONE:

  1. Remain calm and listen to the caller carefully.
    1. Complete the bomb threat checklist (on the back of this page) or take notes.
    2. Do not interrupt the caller except to obtain information about the bomb.
  2. DO NOT hang up your phone after the threatening caller has ended the call. The call may be able to be traced by your NOT hanging up the call.
  3. Use a different phone to notify authorities (SCSU Public Safety: 308-3333).

Suspicious Package/Circumstances

YOU SHOULD:

  1. Notify SCSU Public Safety (308-3333).
    • Do NOT touch, move or open a suspicious item.
    • Do NOT alarm others or cause panic – do not discuss with others unless directed to do so.
    • Do NOT initiate fire alarm unless authorized to do so (Some explosive devices are sound sensitive and can be detonated by loud noise).
