What is the difference between the B.A. in Psychology and the B.S. in Community Psychology?

The field of Psychology is exciting and varied. The American Psychological Association consists of 53 divisions, representing various interests and disciplines of study.  Here at St. Cloud State University there are two undergraduate programs that provide degrees in the field of Psychology.  The Department of Psychology, located in Whitney House 102, offers a B.A. in Psychology.  The Department of Community Psychology, located in B 210 in the College of Education Building, offers the B.S. in Community Psychology.  Both programs offer Bachelor's degrees and prepare students for employment in the field and/or advanced degrees in Psychology and related disciplines.  The major difference between the two programs is the concentration of courses.  The focus of the Department of Community Psychology is to develop practitioner skills in the fields of Behavior Analysis, Counseling, Chemical Dependency, or Family Dynamics.  Our students take courses in counseling theories and skills, small group process, introduction to the principles of behavior analysis, applied behavior analysis, and electives in areas of student interest.  In addition, all students in Community Psychology complete either fieldwork or supervised internship, allowing students the opportunity to apply their skills and abilities in a variety of internship settings.
