ED421/431/441 Explanation
- There are two choices for ED Block classes, morning or afternoon.
- When class is in session, it meets only two days a week.
- When field starts, there is no class.
- When field is in session, you are scheduled at the field site for five days a week.
- Field times coincide with class times, i.e., morning classes have morning fields and afternoon classes have afternoon fields (see below).
- Register for the same section of all three parts of the Ed Block (421/431/441).
- Register for any other classes during the half day you are not scheduled for the Ed Block (if you are taking one of the morning sections of the Ed Block, you will need to register for any other classes that begin after 12noon; if you are taking the afternoon section of the Ed Block, you will need to register for morning sections of other classes and be sure they end before 11:30)
- If you have trouble registering for the ED Block classes, contact the ED431 teacher of the class you want.
- SPED425 (if you haven’t already taken it) has two sections typically offered T and W evenings.
- ENGL/ED460 (if you haven’t already taken it) has sections that are offered twice per week and then end when you start the field; other sections go throughout the semester.
M & W (sec 01) or T & R (sec 02) morning classes (421/431) meet from 8-11 until the morning field starts, which is every day—5 days a week. Students in the morning classes must reserve 7:30 am to 12 pm for their field experience, including travel time.
M& W (sec 03) afternoon classes (421/431) meet from 12noon-3pm until the afternoon field starts, which is every day—5 days a week. Students in the afternoon classes must reserve 11:30 am to 4 pm for their field experience, including travel time.
NOTE: Spring Semester typically has no T/R section.
Timeline:
9 weeks of class---6 weeks of M-F half-day field am or pm------classes meeet during finals
Don’t crowd your schedule when you take the ED Block! You will be busy with class assignments and lots of teaching in the field with a schedule that looks something like this for the field: Week 1 = Observation, Week 2 = Team Teaching, Weeks 3-5 = Teaching, and Week 6 = Team Teaching.
