• Kay talked about both EE and CpE curricula are being evaluated and possibly revised based on assessment data. Technical writing course will be part of revised curriculum.
• Idea of doing professional portfolio was brought up since it can be used in job interview.
• Courseplan
- Students think the 4-year courseplan is not realistic, graduate in 4 year is not really practical even with good students. Idea of incorporating CO-OP into the curriculum and make the possible 5-year courseplan that includes the CO-OP was brought up since some company has CO-OP options available.
- The courseplan should be shifted to the left side, given that they follow the courseplan closely, to make more time for seniors to spend doing senior design project.
• Credit hours
Students think that number of credits they have to take in each semester does not correctly reflect or represent number of hours that they have to spend studying for the classes. Idea of doing a survey in each class asking students how many hours that they are spending for that class was brought up. The info can be u. The info can be used by students who will take the class later to manage time between study and work.
• Senior with MME 101
Students like the idea of matching between senior students and MME 101 students since MME 101 students can benefit from experience that senior have. Idea of a senior who pairs with an MME 101 student for a day was brought up so that an MME-101 will learn about a typical day of an engineering student.
• Discussion about several courses:
Students would like to see Electrical regulations and various specifications being mentioned or taught in class.
• FE Exam: Question about the FE exam – whether it is possible for the department to pay and to have a faculty member do some tutoring.
•Question about whether the H: drive on the NT server could be made available outside of the department.
• Question about the integration between the ECE dept. and CSCI on the Comp. E program. Students can feel lost in the CSCI classes for various reasons.
Adjourn at 2 PM.
