Attending: Davian Richards, Joe Idziorek, Taimour Ahmed, Amanda Meemken, Bill Jones, Sanae Soto, Yunsong Wu, Dr. Mark Petzold, Dr. Sura Lekhakul

 

•  Discussion of Department Objectives and Outcomes

•  Department Objectives and Outcomes were presented and explained

•  Discussion about how to satisfy outcomes, especially g, h, and i

•  The idea of a 1 credit class on engineering ethics was proposed

•  An Engineering Ethics class in the Gen Ed curriculum (Area A or C) was proposed

•  Current Gen Ed not specific enough to satisfy g, h, and i.

•  Current 101 not viewed as valuable

•  Students don't feel prepared for senior design in terms of writing and speech

•  No help with resume writing or job search from Career Services, with blame being placed in several places

•  Need resume and technical writing in the Jr. level

•  Discussion of Assessing the Outcomes

•  Grant for students to take the FE exam, with tutoring from the faculty has been received. Concerns about students in the Comp. E. program being able to take the exam

•  Accreditation Progress for the Comp. E. Program

•  Facility Issues and Discussion

•  Dean wants plan for the building

•  ECE is space rich and space poor at the same time

•  Some labs may be combined

•  Faculty offices may be created in some space

•  ECC 221 computer lab is crowded, not always usable for lab times

•  Question about whether the H: drive on the NT server could be made available outside of the department.

•  Could we map the Huskynet drive inside the department, and end the department storage?

•  ECC 126 and 128 will be converted into E-classrooms for Fall 2005

•  Roundtable Discussion

•  Questions about the integration between the ECE dept. and CSCI on the Comp. E program. Students can feel lost in the CSCI classes for various reasons. Better integration between the ECE Comp. E. and the CSCI Comp. E. classes, but this would affect the EE program.
