Who we are

Division of General Studies (DGS) students have been selected from hundreds of students to be offered enrollment at St. Cloud State University. This one year program gives students the opportunity to experience campus life, learn important college preparatory skills, and take selected general education courses. Services like Residential Life, Financial Aid, Career Counseling, Academic Advising, as well as other campus services and resources, are available to all DGS students.

Mission

The General Studies program is designed to increase the possibilities for student success and development at St. Cloud State University and within the global community.

Purpose

  • This is a first year program designed for a supportive transition from high school to college.
  • The DGS program affords enrollment to a limited number of students who show academic potential, but do not meet the regular admission standards.

Benefits

  • Access to ongoing mentoring, personal advising, and counseling referrals as needed
  • Courses with small class size focused on college preparatory skills
  • Courses provide students with an introduction to academic resources and student services available on campus, as well as techniques in goal setting, time management, note taking, study strategies, test taking, relationships, and personal health
