Alcohol Policy
No recognized organization may advertise or participate in fundraisers involving alcohol or any illicit drug on or off campus. Any non-fundraising events that involve alcohol may in no way expose a St. Cloud State University recognized student organization or St. Cloud State University to a position of liability. If alcohol is served at a function it must be served or distributed by a licensed and bonded/insured third party. In addition, alcohol cannot be the focus of any organizational event.
Alcohol Promotion Policy
The National Commission on Drug Free Schools advises schools and colleges to scrutinize all contributions from the private sector to determine whether they would entail a conflict on interest. The Alcohol Promotion Ad Hoc Committee believes that the present special policy on the advertising, promotion, sale, serving, and/or use of alcoholic beverages in the St. Cloud State University Campus (hereafter called the Alcohol Promotion Policy) encourages such scrutinization, but allows for some promotion under specific guidelines. The committee has made the following revisions to the policy.
Campus Media Promotion Policies
Campus Media (audio, visual, printed) used to advertise or promote alcoholic beverage products and/or their use at events or activities or the sponsorship of events by the alcohol industry agrees to use the standards described in the Promotional Standards, listed below.
Industry representatives, eligible organizations, student organizations, University offices, and others involved in promotional activities involving alcohol beverage and products or brand awareness are responsible for compliance with media marketing and advertising guidelines. All media marketing and advertising policies governing campus media are incorporated by references into this policy.
Any proposed revisions in the future regarding the campus Alcohol Promotion Policy must be brought before the Student Life and Development Ad Hoc Committee prior to being included in the policy statement.
Appropriate Promotional Standards
Alcohol beverage advertising or promotion on campus may display product name, logo, registered trademarks, and/or works, which comply with conditions set forth in promotional standards below. These logos, trademarks, etc., may occupy a maximum of one-fourth of the advertisement, banner, flier, poster, and marquee and must be specifically tied to a campus event.
Any alcohol beverage promotion or advertising using pictorial representation (photographs, cartoon figures, caricatures, drawings, video displays, background imaging or shapes or forms by shading or spacing of words) should portray the consumption, promotion, sale, serving and/or use of alcoholic beverages in a mature, moderate, responsible manner which complies with conditions set forth in promotional standards below.
