SCSU Virginia Tech Summary of  Actions

Joint statement issued Monday from AFA, NIC, NPHC, NPC and NALFO as leaders from these groups gathered together in Washington, D.C. for the NIC Annual Meeting.

Summary of Events/Activities

1. Large newsprint cards available for students, faculty and staff to write notes on in front of Student Government Office, Atwood

2. Statement and Moment of silence at Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary Association (NRHA) Eagle Awards, Monday, April 16th

3. Statement and Moment of silence at the American Indian Awards Dinner, Tuesday, April 17th

4. Statement at the Multicultural Awards Program, Wednesday, April 18th

5. Newman Center- Student Mass, Wednesday, April 18, 9 pm (discussion focus on Virginia Tech Tragedy)

6. International Student Gathering, Thursday, April 19th

7. Statement and Moment of silence at Candlelight vigil for individuals affected by suicide, Wednesday, April 18th (sponsored Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Student Organization, Residential Life and Counseling and Psychological Services).

Marie Olsen( Kappa Phi Omega) , Christine Wililams (PHC, Kappa Phi Omega) , and Travis Gause (GPB, Theta Chi) distribute ribbons in atwood with UPB in response to student action and reaction to the Verginia Tech.

8. Residence Hall Staff Professional Development Session, Friday, April 20th

9. Candle Light Vigil prior to Atwood After Dark, Friday, April 20th, 8 pm

At 8 p.m. there will be a candle light vigil on the west Atwood Mall by the Performing Arts Center. Candles will be provided. For more info: call UPB  308-2205 118 Atwood; www.stcloudstate.edu/upb

10. Atwood After Dark Program, Friday, April 20th

11. For those who would like to express their regards there will be tables set up in the Atwood Main Lobby on Thursday, April 19 & Friday April 20 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. to write notes on a banner to students, faculty/staff at Virginia Tech. Ribbons will also be given out to wear in Virginia Tech’s school colors of maroon & orange. Paper peace cranes can be made and will be sent to Virginia Tech from universities across the nation in expressions of sympathy.

Flyers, Kiosks, email announcements will be going out Thursday and Friday regarding the Friday Vigil and Atwood After Dark Activities.

As an fyi, over 550 FaceBook groups have been formed to support Virginia Tech (growing by the hour) and one group alone has over 29,000 members in the group and growing by the second, literally.
