Statement on Recent Events at San Diego State University

St. Cloud, MN - May 11, 2008 - Statement on Recent Events at San Diego State University

As student leaders in the St Cloud State University Fraternity/Sorority Learning Community, we are concerned about the events that transpired

this past week at San Diego State University. The actions of those involved are not consistent with what St Cloud State Universities Fraternities &

Sororities or the fraternal movement represents. St Cloud State University Fraternity & Sorority Learning Community expects its groups and

members to adhere to Risk Management Policies and member Code of Conducts at all times.

As a Fraternity & Sorority Learning Community we are committed to representing ourselves and St. Cloud State University in a positive matter and

will continue to do so in the years to come. We will continue to dedicate our time and service to the values in which our Fraternities and Sororities

were founded and remain committed to in our everyday actions.

SCSU's Fraternity & Sorority Community invest hours each year in efforts toward prevention, education, and accountability. Acts such as those

at San Diego State University or Tulane University are not representative of the Fraternity/Sorority experience at SCSU or the 5 million fraternity

alumni across the globe. SCSU Fraternities & Sororities, through the Standards of Membership, enforce risk management policies and values based

programming which educate members about the negative impact of hazing, Drugs & Alcohol, and gender violence.

Please join us this coming year for our 2nd Annual sponsorship of National Hazing Awareness & Prevention Week (September 21-26th, 2008)

St Cloud State University currently hosts 5 men's fraternities and 4 women's sororities, which makes it the largest organization on campus. The Fraternity/Sorority

experience fosters life-long relationships among its members while staying connected to campus and the community of St. Cloud long after your graduation.

Students who commit to the expectations of this 'college lifestyle" and commitment to living to a higher standard for oneself; ones Fraternity/Sorority affiliation;

and the greater communities. We are Values based organizations who strive daily to live by their organizations values as stated in their founding creeds and

mission statements. A truly integrated and comprehensive learning experience to support intellectual, interpersonal, and intrapersonal development.
