Parents' InformationParents Logo
The college experience is a transitional period for students and for the families that support this experience.. As your son or daughter matriculates at SCSU, they may feel overwhelmed. Affiliating and participating with SCSU's Fraternity/Sorority Learning Community can help your son or daughter in their adjustment to college, provide programming to support their ongoing development, and adjustment to college life. It can make a large University seem smaller. Fraternities/Sororities are recognized as an important part of the Univeristy, and have impact on the surrounding community area as well. The members of the fraternities and sororities can be found doing community service in neighborhoods nearby SCSU, volunteering at local events, or organizing philanthropic activities to benefit local/national causes, research, and social issues.

SCSU Fraternities/Sororities are a comprehensive Learning Community experience that has membership expectations and learning outcomes that demands each member to commit themself to living to a higher standard. This is outlined in their Fraternity/Sorority founding principles, stated values, and mission. We are also a community of SCSU students of commonality that explore, reflect, and challenge one another through our overall purpose, mission, values, and vision. We view all the fraternities and sororities as one large learning community with the desire for interconnectedness of their learning and college experience.

SCSU Fraternities & Sororities VTGreeksInitiative

Currently there are 9 Sororities and Fraternities at St Cloud State University. Chapter size ranges from 15 to 50 members. Several fraternity and sorority houses are located near campus, but are not associated with St Cloud State University or our Residential Life program. Undergraduate fraternity/Sorority members manage the day to- day operations. These men/women are assisted by the alumnus Chapter Advisor and several alumni volunteers. The Housing Corporation composed of alumni volunteers typically manages the fraternity property/housing. Housing is owned or rented by the local Housing Corporation and leased to the fraternity members.

PHC Five Men's Fraternities & two of the Women's Sororities are chapters of an inter/national organization that has a HEADQUARTERS which provides support through visits from Leadership Consultants (fraternity/sorority employees who consult at the chapter level) and Edcuational programing/resources. Additionally, the HEADQUARTERS sponsors leadership opportunities and conventions for their chapters members to attend. For more information please visit the parent information websites below. Please feel free to contact our Fraternity/Sorority leaders, advisors, house corporation, or the HEADQUARTERs staff for more information (The North American Interfraternity Conference Parent's Guide)

Fraternity & Sorority membership development & new member experience

Fraternities & Sororiites have alot of 'stereotypes" to overcome as well as make sure they are a positive contribution to a SCSU students experience. In response to making sure they have a positive experience for all new members by working together to create a non-hazing environment through two initiaitves:

Greek 101 small Greek 101 program is a day long orientation to fraternity/sorority membership. Peer Greek Leaders, Faculty, Administrative Faculty, and Alumni/nae come together to provide a orientation and kick off entrance into full membership with positive examination of:

  • Self and personal values
  • Values of each Fraternity/Sorority
  • Values of the SCSU Fraternity & Sorority Learning community
  • Good Decision Making, ethics, and alcohol education
  • An action plan for success and maximizing the F/S Experience
