Greek 101 is an educational program designed to help new members transition into fraternity and sorority life, learn about the values and standards of our community, and to build relationships between our different organizations. Greek 101 will be hosted by the CSOLD (Greek Life Office), Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, and the Greek Community Fraternities & Sororities in the fall and winter semesters. All new members must participate and complete Greek 101.
Greek 101 is the 'Gateway" leadership, academic success, community building, service, and values development program for all new members and associate members of SCSU's Fraternity & Sorority community. Its an inclusive experience that is designed to enhance the development of the quailities expected of all fraternities & sororities at SCSU.

This one day orientation examines the fraternity & sorority experience for three different levels:
The Individual: Personal Values
The Group: Values of My Fraternity/Sorority
The Community: Values of others as well as those of my Community
New Members will:
- explore personal values (Consciousness of self, congruence)
- Introduction to the values, mission, purpose, and creeds of their affiliated fraternity/sorority. (common purpose, commitment, congruence, controversy)
- Introduction to the being an intricate member of the SCSU Fraternity & Sororoity Community; the fraternity & sorority community 'nation wide". (Collaboration, Common purpose,Civic engagement & Citizenship, change)
- engage in a team building & 'get to know other new members of their Fraternity & Sorority learning community.
- examine Healthy lifetstyles and its relationship to being a member of a SCSU Fraternity/Sorority member.
- examine "True Brotherhood/Sisterhood" in the context of good decision making and organizational risk management
- develop an academic success/ time management plan

Greek 101 Ongoing New Member Education Opportunities Fall 2007
The Following are opportunities for your New Member Program:
September 17: Emerging Adulthood
In the U.S., the period of time between ages 18 and 25 is viewed as a distinct developmental period known as Emerging Adulthood and is marked by profound changes, struggles, freedoms, questions, etc. The purpose of this talk is to help you understand yourself and/or your loved ones as you live through these turbulent and exciting times.
September 24: Approaching Your Professors and Time Management
How you communicate with your professor may affect your progress in a course. Learn some simple strategies that will enhance your interactions with your instructors. This presentation will also focus on effective ways to prioritize commitments for your semester. Avoid stress by using your time more wisely!
October 1: Alcohol and Drugs: Healthy Choices
Learn about the effects of alcohol and other drugs on the brain and body. Identify ways to make healthy choices and reduce the risk of negative consequences.
October 8: Dealing With Depression
Learn to identify symptoms and types of depression, as well as common strategies to address depression including types of treatment that are available to St. Cloud State students.
October 15: Are You the First in Your Family to Attend College?
If your parents did not attend a four year college, you may feel that you are lacking of the support and advice that other students receive. Managing the bureaucratic nature of the University can feel overwhelming. The purpose of this presentation is to provide information and support for navigating through the University.
October 22: Healthy Communication
Do you sometimes have trouble saying what you mean? Do you sometimes do things you don’t want to do because you don’t want to say no? Do people sometimes say you don’t listen to them? This session will teach you some strategies for healthy communication skills.
October 29: How to Help a Friend you are Concerned About
This presentation is for anyone who has concerns about the health and well being of a friend. We'll talk about warning signs, strategies to discuss your concerns with your friend and where you can find additional help.
November 5: Test Anxiety
This presentation is directed toward those students who have difficulty performing on tests due to excessive nervousness or worry. Methods of dealing with anxiety will be addressed.
November 12: Suicide Awareness and Prevention
This presentation will address warning signs and symptoms of people who may be thinking of suicide. Come and get information on what you can do to help a friend or loved one.
November 19: Eating Disorders and Healthy Body Image
Eating disorders develop as outward signs of psychological distress or problems. They become the way that people cope with difficulties in their life. Learn more about eating disorders and treatment options.
November 26: Healthier Relationships
Most people get more training in how to drive a car than how to build and maintain healthy relationships. Learn about how to become a person capable of choosing a healthy partner and building a healthy relationship. Learn how to enhance & deepen your relationships.
December 3: Stress and Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of simply focusing on being aware and alert in the present moment without judgment and without movement into the past or future. Mindfulness, when practiced over time, can help us decrease our feelings of stress, and has been linked to positive medical and mental health outcomes. Join with the presenters as we begin our first steps on the path of mindfulness.
Women’s Empowerment and Assertiveness Workshop 2007
In order for an attendee to get the most out of this experience, she must be able to participate in all five sessions. The group maximum is eight members and the format of the workshop is a combination of presentations, exercises and group discussion. The workshop provides women with the opportunity to explore and challenge the societal assumptions placed on them and discover how these assumptions create obstacles preventing women from feeling empowered. The workshop will provide tools to help the attendees to overcome obstacles and become more assertive in their daily lives.
