ADMITTANCE TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAM
Q: What are some things I should know about the application and admittance process?
A: A student cannot be formally admitted to the Department of Criminal Justice Graduate Program until after all application materials have been received and eligibility has been determined by the SCSU Graduate School. To be admitted to the SCSU Graduate School, a student must contact the School of Graduate Studies in Administrative Services Building Room 121 (308-2113) or go to www.stcloudstate.edu/graduatestudies/. The SCSU Graduate Studies Office will provide the application materials necessary for Graduate School admittance. The applicant must also take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) to be admitted to the Graduate School at SCSU.
Once a Criminal Justice Master's Degree candidate has applied for admission to the SCSU Graduate School and all materials have been received, that candidate's application materials are then sent to the CJS Department. Once the CJS faculty and CJS Graduate Program Director review the application, a decision is made as to whether or not the student is admitted, and if admitted, whether the admission is under Regular Admission status or Conditional Admission status. Generally speaking, if the student has taken the GRE, meets the minimum qualifications of at least a 2.75 undergraduate GPA, and has appropriate letters of reference, the student will receive Regular Admission. Applicants not meeting these criteria may be given Conditional Admission, which requires a 3.25 GPA in nine credits which must be taken before Regular Admission status can be given.
